Mancos residents invited to meetings on land use code

Public invited to share thoughts on final draft
The town of Mancos has been in the process of updating its land use code.

Mancos residents are invited to share their opinion of the final draft of the town’s land use code update.

The town has been updating its code, a set of rules that regulate property development by establishing town districts, setting standards for lot and building features and sizing and determining how to best landscape areas throughout town.

The purpose of the update is to modernize outdated standards from the existing code, in order to appropriately guide future development. The town of Mancos is managing the project, alongside consultants SAFEbuilt.

Some key factors the town was asked to consider in compiling the update include: a more user-friendly code, accessory dwelling units, “grandfathered” uses, river setbacks, sidewalk requirements, amount and types of housing, encouraging more business, fence standards, road paving and consistent enforcement.

The code is being finished up, and locals are invited to share their input on the final draft. There will be three official opportunities:

Mancos Community Center, 9 to 11 a.m. July 24.Mancos Town Hall, noon to 3 p.m. July 25.Mancos Farmers Market, 4 to 5 p.m. July 25.Residents can also share their thoughts online on the Mancos land use code update project website.
