Bayfield Primary School is accumulating hundreds of nonperishable food items that will be collected for Pine River Shares to help Bayfield-area families in need this holiday season.
Bayfield Primary School students, families and area residents have donated more than 1,000 items so far, according to a news release on the Bayfield School District’s website. The food drive continues through Thursday and will help people who use resources provided by Pine River Shares, a Bayfield nonprofit.
“We love watching students learn about giving to those in need, and this year’s food drive has truly brought out the generosity of our students, their families and our community,” said Bayfield Primary School dean of students Savannah Baird in the release.
Each class that collects 100 items or more will have a hot chocolate party to celebrate. As of this past weekend, five of the 12 classrooms participating in the food drive have reached or surpassed that goal, the release said.
“Small acts of kindness can brighten someone’s day and help create a stronger sense of community,” Bayfield Primary School counselor Tori Telep said in the release. “We are excited to spread kindness throughout our school and our community this month. Whether it’s a kind word, a simple gesture, or a helping hand, these actions can make a big difference in someone’s life.”
Examples of nonperishable food items include canned fruits and vegetables, soups, pancake mix, cereal and peanut butter.
