Local sports schedule for upcoming week

Local high schools head to Aztec for basketball tournament

With the holidays approaching fast, many high school and college sports are playing their last games before heading off to their holiday breaks. But athletes can’t relax just yet, as they still have a few more games to play before earning that well-deserved time off. Here is the schedule for all the local sports games this upcoming week:

Fort Lewis College basketball:

FLC men’s basketball vs. West Texas A&M on Friday at noon

Records: The Skyhawks are 7-5 overall, 2-2 in the RMAC and carry a two-game winning streak into their fourth home game in their last five games overall. They face a tough test against the WTA&M Buffaloes, who are 9-1 (4-1 in the Lone Star Conference) and ranked No.8 in NCAA Division II.

FLC women’s basketball at Northern New Mexico on Friday at 4 p.m.

Records: The Fort Lewis women are coming into their road game against the NNM Eagles hoping to snap a three-game losing streak that has them at 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the RMAC. The Eagles are red-hot, having won five games in a row to earn an 11-9 record.

High school sports:

DHS, Bayfield and Ignacio boys and girls basketball at Aztec Tournament Thursday-Saturday

DHS boys varsity hockey at Caprock Academy on Friday at 7 p.m. and Crested Butte on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

DHS and Bayfield boys varsity wrestling at Warrior Classic in Grand Junction on Friday.

DHS and Ignacio girls varsity wrestling at Warrior Classic in Grand Junction on Friday and Saturday.

Ignacio boys varsity wrestling Quad at Dolores on Wednesday and at Walsenburg Friday and Saturday.

Bayfield girls varsity wrestling Tri at Hotchkiss on Friday.

DHS girls varsity swimming and diving at Montrose Meet on Friday and Saturday.
